It’s Tuesday again which means time for another round of Top Ten Tuesday; I like joining in on this meme because I have a set topic to work with. Top Ten Tuesday is a book blogger meme that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week the theme is: Top Books I’ve Read so far this Year.
- War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
- The Dark Path by David Schickler
- The Sorrows of Young Werther by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
- Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
- By Blood We Live by Glen Duncan
- Encyclopedia of a Life in Russia by José Manuel Prieto
- Little Failure by Gary Shteyngart
- All That Is by James Salter
- Tigerman by Nick Harkaway
- The Fictional Woman by Tara Moss
Encyclopedia of a Life in Russia has definitely caught my attention–will have to check it out on GoodReads!
Middlesex has been on my want-to-read list for a very long time; I’ve only read The Virgin Suicides by that author and am curious to read more titles by him. Yay for War and Peace and The Sorrows of Young Werther 🙂
My TTT
I recommend you read EVERYTHING by Jeffrey Eugenides!
Some fascinating choices here Michael.
I can’t wait to read your review about Tara’s book (did you know there is a fb page where women cover their faces with the words/labels flung at them over the years?)
The Salter is on my TBR pile too.
😀 If I give young Werther another chance will you try Luminaries again??
I won’t try The Luminaries again, they say it takes 600 pages for it to get good; not worth it
Some might say that, but I loved it from the start!
I had to quit 150 pages into it
Oh well, I tried my best to convert you 🙂
I know what it’s like – I gave up on The Goldfinch at the half way point as I got tired of all the coincidences – many people are horrified.
I can understand that, it was very convenient, but I actually made it to the end of that book.
I haven’t read any of these! The Dark Path has been on my list for a while, but I will have to take a closer look at the others.
Highly recommend The Dark Path
I’ve been interested in All That Is and I’ve heard Little Failure is great! Good list.
I hope you get a chance to read them, I think they are worth it (obviously)
Middlesex is one of those books that I’ve always meant to read. Same with Glen Duncan’s series. Great list! A few I haven’t heard about and will definitely be checking out.
I hope you do try Middlesex, then The Virgin Suicides and The Marriage Plot. He is an awesome author. I love Glen Duncan’s Bloodlines series, finally a werewolf series that is both literary and dark.
I have read The Virgin Suicides so I’m not crazy behind on Eugenides.
Have you read Red Moon by Benjamin Percy?
No I haven’t, it is on one of my bookshelves but haven’t gotten around to it
Ah alright. Was wondering if there were comparisons between the two. 🙂
I get the impression that Red Moon is more horror than literary
Red Moon tried very hard to be literary and was a bit of a fail.
disappointing
Great varied list! I love how you added new and older releases. I did the same because I was able to tackle some from my TBR pile that were long overdue. 🙂 An now I can add these.
I like the older books, I don’t want to be subjected to only recent releases all the time
