Top Ten Tuesday: Popular Authors I’ve Never Read

toptentuesdayIt’s Tuesday again which means time for another round of Top Ten Tuesday; I like joining in on this meme because I have a set topic to work with. Top Ten Tuesday is a book blogger meme that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week the theme is: Popular Authors I’ve Never Read. This is going to be interesting, I don’t often read popular authors but these ten might shock or disappoint you, maybe one day I’ll read them but I don’t follow the crowd.

  • J.K. Rowling
  • J. R. R. Tolkien
  • Nicholas Sparks
  • John Irving
  • Charlotte Brontë
  • Mary Roach
  • Melina Marchetta
  • Ian McEwan
  • Anton Chekhov
  • Mark Twain

I’ve only read the first Harry Potter–and it was fine, but I just don’t read a lot of that particular genre. John Irving is another author who I’ve only tried once–I read Garp years ago, but never tried any of his other books. I’ve never read Mary Roach–I probably should have put her on my own list!

  2. I have not read 4 on your list. And i don’t even know who Melina Marchetta is! Isn’t that shameful? And I can honestly say that i don’t think i will ever read Nick Sparks. Mary Roach is on my list of to-reads and I will inevitably read JK at some point, as I like reading with my daughter.

    • Melina Marchetta is a popular Australian author known mostly for her book Looking for Alibrandi. I don’t think I’ll read Sparks but my wife keep pushing him. As for Roach, I want to read her sometime and maybe the Harry Potter series (since there seems to always be HP questions at trivia).

I’ve read some Tolkien and the Potter series from Rowling. I’ve read one book by Sparks. None of the others.

I have just jumped onto the Melina Marchetta bandwagon in the last 6 months or so! She is an awesome writer. I highly recommend On the Jellicoe Road and The Piper’s Son, although you should read Saving Francesca before reading Piper.

Great list! You’ve mentioned some authors here that I absolutely love (JRR Tolkien, Ian McEwan, Anton Chekhov)–I hope you enjoy their books when you get to them 🙂
