I think I might be addicted to Top Ten Tuesday, I like joining in and having a set topic to work with. Top Ten Tuesday is a book blogger meme that is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and this week the theme is: Top Ten Books with X Setting, I’ve decided to look at books set in war times, because it sounds like a different theme. I’ve read some really great novels set in war times and this is a good time to share them with the world.
10. Dog Soldiers by Robert Stone
9. All That I Am by Anna Funder
8. The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers
7. Painter of Silence by Georgina Harding
6. Maus by Art Spiegelman
5. The People of Forever Are Not Afraid by Shani Boianjiu
4. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain
3. A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra
2. Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
1. Catch 22 by Joseph Heller
I love Slaughterhouse Five! I was just saying that I need to reread it soon!! Great idea for a list 🙂
I picked Top 10 Book in my Hometown – New York http://www.riverarunsthroughit.com/2013/08/top-10-books-that-take-place-in-new-york.html
I need to read it again sometime too
I’ve got that one list written now to publish it
when?!
Next free day I have
The Painter of Silence is so good! I’ve got The Yellow Birds on my pile waiting for me…I adore war books so I’m not sure what is keeping me from it. Maybe because it’s a modern war and I’ve always been so consumed by the First World War. Great list, I will be adding the one’s I’ve not read to my to read list. I did my top ten WW1 books this week: http://literarynerdsunite.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/top-ten-tuesday-war-books.html
awesome, will check it out
Maus was fantastic and I really want to check out A Constellation of Vital Phenomena. I can’t believe I haven’t read Catch 22 or anything by Vonnegut.
so many good books in store for you 🙂
Wow, I haven’t read Maus in awhile. One of my favorite graphic novels, definitely.
My TTT.
It’s in my top five of graphic novels
Some great picks! I love that you chose some from modern wars, like Yellow Birds and Constellation. I’ve heard great things about All That I Am and recently added it to my Nook, just need to take some time to read it!
Hope you enjoy it
On my list I would have The Ken Follett series that is set in the wars, And also the Secret Keeper by Kate Morton.
I haven’t read them, so I couldn’t tell you if they would turn up on my next list
