While reading in itself has had a very positive experience for me personally; I think that books have helped me with make friends and get to know more people in the community. Not only has the reading made me want to blog which has been a very enjoyable experience, it’s also made me want to go to university and study a Bachelor of Arts in Literature. So while it’s helped improve myself with knowledge and as a person, it has also had a good impact on my social life too. While I consider myself an introvert, the books have made me want to get involved with my local library with all the great book events they have; and I’m hoping that this might lead to me maybe helping them out as much as they have helped me. It’s also helped me become more involved with my awesome local indie bookstore, by giving them all my money. Well, also I’ve gotten to know the wonderful people that work there and I’ve even joined their book club even if I have disliked the books that have been read there.
I like to think that my book blog is starting to get known around my local community and I would love to thank CityLibraries Townsville, Mary Who Books and ABC North Queensland for all there bookish things they do for the community and the positive impact they have had on my life as well.

Its lovely that books have become a social thing for you in real life.
I’m happy it has
I completely agree that books and blogging have a social element–I’ve started a book club with some bookish Melburnian friends and get to chat to all sorts of people I wouldn’t otherwise have met. Books are great for bringing people together (even if arguments can ensue re: tastes!)
I love my book club on Goodreads and the whole site in fact; just to talk books. But knowing some local bookish businesses and people helps heaps
Lucky!!!!
OMG!!!! Arts in Literature!! hehe we don’t have that here but I wish you all the best!! 😀
Glad to know it has helped you though, I’m too introvert and too shy to get…but there aren’t any events or things to get involved with here so…
Here’s my post, Bookpics is Talking Networking! http://bookpics-reading2alba.blogspot.com/2012/06/armchair-bea-lets-talk-networking.html
I consider myself an introvert too but I want to learn
Great that you’re out in the world a bit more because of your love for books. Maybe there are book bloggers nearby that you could meet up. Don’t worry about topics of conversation, it always works because you can talk books! 🙂
I’m looking for them
I’m glad that reading / blogging has made you want to become more involved, and helped you figure out what you wanted to study at University.
Amanda
Thanks Amanda it’s been a high improvement of my life
Yay, congratulations on being renowned in the community!
Getting that way; not there yet
Blogging has led me to considering a return to school. Some of the women authors that I have met are trying to get me signed up for an M.A. Degree in creative writing at a local university. It is tempting but I don’t need a school loan at this point in my life.
I tell myself learning is worth the loans. I don’t know if it’s a good justification but it’s enough to get me studying
Wow! That’s great that your blog is inspiring a lit degree! 🙂
It might take me a while since I’m only doing it part time but I think it’s worth it
”
It’s also helped me become more involved with my awesome local indie bookstore, by giving them all my money” – LOL! Same, except I expand my local spending to include state, national and international networking, haha.
I don’t want them to know I use amazon and BD 😛
Best of luck in your studies.
Thanks Nise’
Book blogging has definitely made me less of an introvert as well. I think just getting excited about what you are talking about (books) makes it less daunting to talk to strangers 🙂
I agree Kelly. It does make it easier
My blog has gave me the ability to approach a stranger on the street with the “whatchaya’readin” question. Ninety nine out of a hundred times it’s a positive experience.

I’ve never done that, but sounds good
